Xianxia stories follow people who gather spiritual energy to become immortal. Wuxia stories follow martial heroes in a world of schools and duels. The switch changes which given names are drawn. Names that only fit modern life are left out.
The family name comes first. Ouyang 欧阳 is a family name of two characters. The given name follows in simplified characters, toned pinyin and the meaning of each character. Yaohua 瑶华 is precious jade plus splendor. Jinyu 瑾瑜 is flawless jade. Haoran 浩然 is a vast, righteous spirit.
Sect rank, sect and realm
Add a sect rank such as Elder 长老, Inner Sect Disciple 内门弟子 or Holy Maiden 圣女. Choose a sect from the sect page. A realm badge shows how far the person has climbed. The common ladder runs Qi Condensation, Foundation Establishment, Golden Core, Nascent Soul and Deity Transformation. A second ladder follows classical Daoist stages, and a body ladder starts with Tempering Skin. Stories vary these, so adapt them.
Names that need a second look
Dongfang 东方 carries Check meaning, because its first syllable is English slang. Jingxian is flagged for an idiom about a bird startled by a bowstring.
